Woodworking Project Plans

A woodworking project can be intimidating if you don’t know what you are doing. The great news is that with the right woodworking project plans and a little practice, it doesn’t have to be. There are many sites that have great woodworking project plans for a reasonable price, and woodworking project ideas in a wide variety.

I have been a big fan of woodworkers’ tools since I was a kid, and there are a lot of resources out there to help you become one yourself. One of the places that I find woodworking project plans of high quality and a value is “The Art of Making Things”. You will find plans for virtually every woodworking project imaginable. Each of the plans are complete with instructions, diagrams, illustrations, etc.

Another place that I have always been able to locate good woodworking project plans is “Make Something Beautiful”. This is another awesome woodworking website that features many beautiful handcrafted projects. If you are interested in making jewelry or other fine items, you may also want to check out their jewelry design section. One of my favorite things to do is to find some great woodworking project timber. My local WalMart warehouse does just this; it has beautiful, large oak wood shelves that I simply love.

Last, but certainly not least, is “My Home Improvement Store”. I have shopped here many times over the years because of the quality of the woodworking project plans and projects. Many woodworkers and crafters have sent me some of their work for my review. I have always been very happy with what I have seen.

You can usually find high quality woodworking project plans on the internet by doing a search. Simply type in “free woodworking plans” or “free woodworking project plans” in any search engine and you will get several websites with high quality designs. However, if you don’t like what you see you should probably be wary about purchasing any plan, especially if it has low ratings.

There are many high quality plans for each type of woodworking project that you might want to try. For example, my two favorite woodworking projects are a scroll saw and a rocking horse. Both of these woodworking projects have very detailed plans. The scroll saw has a detailed scroll saw instructions sheet that is clearly visible and there are detailed pictures of the various wood pieces (sans and cover grain) along with all the hardware needed to complete the project.

Sometimes free plans do not come with as much information as the paid plans. Some free plans also include woodworking terminology that is not clearly explained. If you don’t know anything about the various woodworking terminology, the free plans probably won’t help you either. The best way to evaluate any plan is by using woodworkers that use the product.

The more detailed the instructions are, the better off you will be. If there is an excellent step by step guide with complete pictures, you will be able to figure out the project in no time at all. If the instructions are vague or not clear, you might need to consult a woodworker for help. The best woodworkers will usually rate plans with ‘ 5’ if they did an excellent job and a ‘ 0’ if they did a bad job.
